Gallery Internship Position

We are looking for a motivated and inspired individual who aspires to pursue a career in the contemporary art world. Our ideal candidate will have a background in fine art and/or graphic design, a general understanding of visual arts, along with a professional, personable, and poised demeanor. You will be asked to attend, facilitate and coordinate exhibition openings and programming events such as artist talks and walk throughs, in addition to helping maintain general gallery practices. Candidates will get to work alongside sales staff and artists with an intimate view of daily gallery operations. 

 

 What You'll Be Doing: 

- Assisting with daily gallery operations, including greeting all incoming visitors, clients, and press, acting as an initial point of contact and passing along inquiries to sales staff

- Maintain overall appearance and tidiness of general gallery spaces, desk display, as well as communal areas

- Handle book sale transactions as needed. Relay supply orders when applicable.

- Update artwork locations through the oversight of gallery staff

- Provide administrative assistance to other internal departments as needed

- Support departmental and organization-wide openings, special events and programming

- Using gallery templates and existing files, update artist biographies, and press history to gallery website and servers; format exhibition checklists, price lists and sales tools as needed

- Execute design-related and special projects as given by gallery staff and leadership

 

Qualifications

- Pursuant of a Bachelors or Masters degree at a university that accepts credit-based internships

- A background in art history, visual arts, design or a similar field is preferred

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Capacity to prioritize, multi-task, and work well under pressure

- Possess poise and professionalism to interact with varying levels of management and clientele

- Ability to work independently and within a collaborative team environment

- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft/Outlook, AdobeSuite, GoogleSuite and database programs.

- Arternal, ArtLogic, MailChimp and Photoshop skills are appreciated.

 

Compensation

Compensation will be in the form of college credit.
